Help Matthew Carrier recover

Donation protected
My brother Matthew Carrier is a great husband, father, son, brother, colleague, and friend. He is 37 years old and one of the most loving, giving, and caring people I know. For  years he has delivered the mail every day without fail, rain or shine, and most importantly enjoyed doing it. He loves to fish, hunt, and play with his oldest son Lukas, 7, and hold his newborn baby boy Dominick.

In January of 2015 the unexpected happened and he had a catastrophic stroke. For weeks he did not know if he was going to be able to move his right side again. We have always known this, but found out quickly that he is a fighter. No matter how much physical pain he is in (and there has been a lot), Matt will do everything that the therapists are asking of him and more, including on his "day off" when no therapy is officially scheduled. He is giving it his all and we are so very proud of him.

So many are praying for him and keeping him in their daily thoughts. We are thankful that he is alive today. Along this road he has put many of our own lives into perspective and we are looking forward to celebrate life with him. We will treasure all those small but priceless moments that in the past might have slipped by, unnoticed, because we were paying attention to things that ultimately don't matter.

Previously a normal day for Matt was delivering the U.S. Mail to the citizens of Fremont, Michigan, followed by taking Lukas to wrestling practice.   They loved taking weekend hunting and fishing trips together.

Now ... a big day for Matt consists of walking 15 feet with his walker, or learning a new technique for pivoting from his hospital bed to the wheelchair.

If the Carrier's have touched your life in any way - and even if they haven't yet - I'd encourage you to send them a note of support, volunteer your time, or send a donation.

Those who have  known our family will also know that we don't often ask for help.  We are conservative, hardworking people, and we

wouldn't be coming to you if the need weren't so great.

Matt & his family have had numerous medical expenses, travel and lodging costs, and a multitude of other costs.  They have had to make modifications to their home, buy expensive therapy equipment, and spend money in many unexpected ways. Matt and Brandy have not been able to work since January and Matt has a very long road ahead of him.  He may or may not be able to work again.

Every donation, whether $5 or $200, will help Matt and his family reduce the financial stress, so Matt can focus on recovery.

Please share this with anyone who might know Matt or his family or who wants to help someone who couldn't be more deserving. We are aiming to have 1000 people donate and it's going to take the "village" to get it done.

So, maybe even more important than donating is getting the word out:

We need those of you with Facebook friends to share the link and say a few heartfelt words showing that even $5 from a friend of a friend would make a huge difference in Matt's life.
We need those of you who have a printer to put up a flyer at your church and office. We need those of you who like to talk on the phone contact the newspaper to print this story with a link to the website.

All money raised will go directly to Matt and Brandy.

Even though you may not know me, I am truly thankful for you and for your support of my brother.

So let's blow him away with generosity and lift his spirits seeing his family, friends and community rally around him with love and support, making this extremely difficult time in their lives a little easier.

Gratefully,
Bert Carrier Jr.
