Destination DC

Located in Vallejo, CA, Mare island Technology Academy is a Title I charter school and a majority of our students come from low-income, non-English speaking homes. Our senior students have spent the past four years fundraising for their annual Govt class trip to Washington DC. For the majority of our students, this will be their first time traveling outside of the Bay Area, let alone to our Nation's Capital. 

The Trip: We will be visiting the White House, Capitol Building, Holocaust Museum, Supreme Court, African American Civil War Museum, many Smithsonian museums,  and many other historical sites. We will also visit numerous memorials around Washington DC from the Washington Memorial to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
This will be the culmination of a year-long essay project related to issues and locations around Washington DC. 

Fundraising:  So far the students have raised $45,000 through fundraisers they have planned and executed themselves: pasta feeds, carnivals, working 9am-2am at concession stands. Now time is running out and we need your help to raise an additional $20,000 to reach our goal.
