Anyone who knows my dad knows he is the kind of man who would rather give than receive. But the time has come to reach out.

Throughout my life my dad has always worked hard, sometimes working two or three jobs at a time to make sure my family had what we needed. But now severe health issues (to the point where his doctors consider him permanently disabled), mean he can longer work or afford the care he needs.

To say my dad has had bad health luck would be an understatement. In the past five years alone, he’s had four heart procedures with one landing him in the cardiac ICU, spinal fusion, brain surgery and a stimulator implant in his back for pain relief.  In 2012 he also had an accident diving into a lake, resulting in traumatic brain injury. We're lucky to still have him with us after the amount of blood he lost, but he was left with severe memory impairment, confusion that comes and goes  and the need for another surgery after brain fluid began leaking. He's been diagnosed with fibromyalgia, restless leg syndrome (the doctors claim it's one of the worst cases they’ve ever seen) and a number of other issues. The few times when I see my dad able to get out of bed for two days in a row, I can't help but see it as a small miracle.

We’ve applied for disability for my dad and have been denied multiple times, despite doctors' assessments and letters that he is permanently  disabled and cannot work. We've written to the governor and congressman to try to move along the process but still no approval. We’re continuing to appeal and fighting to be approved, but in the meantime  my stepmom’s income is just not enough to cover all of his medical expenses  and the mortgage on the house my dad has worked so hard for all his life.  There are several medications, physical therapy and a procedure my dad desperately needs but just can't afford right now.

I’m reaching out to all of you, for my dad to be able to get the care he needs and to help him keep his home.  Any donation at all would mean the world to myself, my dad and stepmom, and all of those who care about him and want to see him get better.
