Jake Bookers Medical Fund

My name is Kasara and Jake is my husband. This story is long but I promise, there is a point to me sharing all of this information. Anyone who knows Jakes knows what an incredible father, husband, and friend Jake is. What they may not know is everything he has had to endure these past 3 years. In 2012, a few months before our wedding my husband went to his primary care doctor after feeling faint at work. They ran him through several test and discovered that he had large tumor like masses scattered throughout both lungs. He was quickly sent to a pulmonolgist who scheduled him for a biopsy. We waited anxiously for the results but were disappointed to find out that the pulmonologist couldn't  identify what was causing such a reaction. He was prescribed a tylenol/ibuprofen and prednisone regimen and sent on his way. For the next year or so Jake battled flare ups that caused severe pain and made it difficult to breath. But in spring of 2014 shortly after the birth of our son,  Jake experienced a severe enough flare up that sent him to the urgent care desperately looking for answers. After performing a chest xray they rushed him to the ER. After more tests he was admitted for 7 days. During that week they performed another set of routine tests and a more advasive lung biopsy but again, the doctors were unable to determine what was causing the masses or his flare ups. They put him back on his prednisone regimen and asked that he follow up with his pulmonolgist. In June of 2015 my husband was once again feeling ill. This time however, was different. He fought off the symptoms for about a month but he was declining fast. He could hardly walk to the end of our driveway (and its not very long) without having to pause to catch his breath.  He was gray, cold, sweaty, and literally had to bend over to breath. He finally caved and we headed to the ER on Sunday. Our experience with the ER doctor was less than stellar. She paid little attention to our concerns, despite his history and told us to find a good primary care doctor elsewhere. As upsetting as this was, we knew something wasnt right. We were able to squeeze in the following day with Jakes pulmonologist only to discover his left lung was nearly collapsed and was putting pressure on his heart due to a large amount of fluid surrounding his lung. The doctor immediately booked a room at the hospital next door where he would stay for the next 5 days. During his stay doctors drained close to 10 pounds of liquid from around his lung and administered several more tests. During one of the tests they noticed inflammed lymph nodes and out of concern performed a biopsy. He was sent home on Friday prior to finding out the results of that test. That following Tuesday he received a call from his pulmonologist confirming the biopsy did indicate cancerous cells. We met with the oncologist who diagnosed him with stage 3 Hodgkins Lymphoma. He is currently undergoing ABVD however, we want to combat this diganosis on all ends (chemo and supplements to boost his immune system) so he is meeting with a holistic doctor on the 24th, which is not covered by insurance.  We are so grateful that each time he is admitted we leave thinking "could you imagine what would have happened if all these pieces didnt fall into place"? Had he not had his previous complications and a fantastic pulmonogist and had all of the pieces not fallen into place the way they did, the oncologist confirmed it would have only been a few months before it "got him". This thought is terrifying but he is a fighter and we will not settle for anything less than 100% remission. As you can imagine all of the doctors, hospitals, imaging facilities, medications, labs, and time away from work (which is not limited to just hospital stays) within the past 3 years has put a huge financial burden on our family. As much as I want to be there for every appointment, every up and every down, and as bad as I want to press pause so we can process everything as a family, life doesnt slow down or take a break. There are still bills to pay, homework to do, a house to clean, kids to bathe, dinner to make, laundry to fold and an 8-5 job to attend.  We are reaching out to friends, family, and others who can relate in an attempt to raise enough money to cover our deductible expense for this round of hospital stays, doctors appointments, and labs associated with his diagnosis. We are still paying off medical bills from his first hospital stay in 2012 and we need help to stay afloat. Please consider donating to Jakes medical fund. ANY amount large or small is very much appreciated.
Thank you so very much,
God Bless
