Chris Rebidue's Medical Fund

Written by Beth (Chris’ Sister)

As I write this I am sitting by Chris’ side while he lies in ICU on a ventilator, in organ failure and under heavy sedation. Less than a week ago he was a strong, healthy 49 year old telling his corny jokes, and anxiously awaiting the Red Sox season to kick into high gear. If it weren’t for his good physical health prior to this, he wouldn’t be alive at this moment.  I can’t believe the bizarre course of events that lead to him being here in ICU, going on 8 days.

On Saturday,  March 14th, 2015 Chris was fixing his garage door when a panel of the door fell on his foot.  What would have caused most of us to curl in a ball and cry in pain doesn’t usually phase Chris. This is one time I wish Chris would have been even a little bit wimpy.

On Friday March 20, They diagnoses Chris with compartment syndrome in his foot and did surgery immediately to release the pressure that was building up and preventing blood flow to the rest of his foot. What seemed like a very unexpected yet routine surgery become life threatening in the blink of an eye. The hospital called Maria in the middle of the night to be by his side; if they couldn’t get his blood pressure up, he wasn’t going to make it. As a wife who is needed to cope and tend to Chris, Maria also had to call in support to help with their 12 year old son.

They soon discovered Chris was septic; an infection was running through his veins and taking over his body.  It is still that staph (type A) infection in his blood today that has him in this bed, fighting for his life. It has shut down vital organs.  He is currently receiving blood pressure medications and kidney dialysis.  If Chris’ strong and stubborn streak has anything to say, he is going to kick this infection’s ass.  It will be an uphill battle and the road to recovery is long.

I can’t describe to you the helplessness I feel in watching my big strong brother fight for his life in that hospital bed.  I know when I leave to go back home, his wife and son are left with the burden - emotionally, physically and financially.  Chris’ wife currently does not have sick or vacations days at work.

I’ve never seen anything like the outpouring of love provided by these wonderful people that have supported the Rebidue family. I think it speaks volumes about the kind of people Chris and Maria are.  Every day Chris spends in the hospital the financial burden on his family grows. Compiled with the lost wages with Maria reducing work to care for Hunter and Chris, the debt and money troubles seem insurmountable and all consuming.

This fund is set up to offer the opportunity to those who are looking for a way to support Chris, Maria and Hunter.  If you have the means to help financially, we hope you will consider this a worthy cause.  We can’t thank you enough for your support whether monetary or emotional, or spiritual.  We welcome your prayers and encourage you to share this page with other you feel may be able to help. Please include your name and address, as well as your relationship to Chris.  We want to be able to let you know we received your support and to show our appreciation of your generosity.
