Celebrate the 123rd Birthday of H.I.M Emperor Haile Selassie I @ His Birth Site Ejersa Goro, Harar July 23, 2015
July 23, 2015 marks the 123rd birthday of Emperor Haile Selassie. Since 2010, the Pilgrimage Committee based in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia has been celebrating the birthday of Emperor Haile Selassie I at his birth place, Ejersa Goro, Harar.
To promote public awareness and community support, the Pilgrimage Committee is engaged in developing projects for the area. It has established a school for girls in the name of the Emperor's mother, Yeshimebet Ali, construction of guest houses to generate income for the community, and the renovation of the old church built on the ground where the Emperor’s umbilical cord was buried. These projects which for the past five years has been successful due to kind donations from ones all over the world. Once again your support is needed to manifest this noble work.
Ejersa Goro has the potential to become one of UNESCO’s heritages site if the international community makes an effort to support the annual pilgrimage or donate money to develop this sacred place. The site is located in a remote region of Ethiopia with a population of over four thousand. The majority of the people are young, who have limited knowledge about the life and legacy of the Emperor, and the historical value of the area.
The annual birthday celebration is used as a stage for the transmission of educative information and materials. This year, during the celebration of 123 years birthday, the hope is to raise funds to take three medical doctors and nurses to the annual birthday event. These medical personnel will be available to provide general medical services to community members. To achieve this goal, approximately ten thousand US dollars ($10,000) are needed to hire, transport, and feed/houses the medical team.
Due to the reputation of the annual celebration, there is also a request to hold another celebration in the palace of the Emperor and Empress Menen in the City of Harar, where the Emperor was the governor from 1907-16 under the title Dejazmatch Tafari Makonnen. It will be the first time since 1916, that the palace of The Emperor and Empress to hold such a celebration.

During the celebration, the Pilgrimage Committee as a good gesture wants to donate a carpet to cover the gate with the Lion of Judah symbol (see picture below). For material and art work, approximately an additional five thousand US dollars ($5, 000) are needed, bring about a grand total of fifteen thousand US dollars ($15,000). With your generous donation this year, community service projects will be fulfilled in Ejersa Goro and the City of Harar.
