(HEADS UP! I'm hoping this campaign will remain a surprise for Jon, so please do your best not to include him on any Facebook posts!)
Anyway... Hello Friends,
Anyone reading this likely knows and loves Jon Mullen. A dedicated teacher, incredible photographer, and avid pun enthusiast, Jon is also colorblind. When I read about, and saw the video for, the newly-available colorblindness-correcting glasses developed by EnChroma and Valspar, I thought of Jon immediately. When I mentioned the glasses to him, he said he'd recently heard of them, and that he was saving his money for them. My belief is that enough people would support a cause like this to help Jon spare the relatively large expense of these glasses.
I realize Jon's colorblindness has facilitated a beautiful and wholly unique approach to his work for his entire professional life. Before I started this GoFundMe, I thought about whether or not these glasses would take that away from him. I came to believe that they would not - that it would only enhance his perception of the world around him, hopefully inspiring even greater creativity and an even more wonderful perspective of his - and one he'd likely continue to share with us all through his work. (Besides, he can take them off any time.)
I am excited by the idea of vicariously experiencing a world of color through Jon's eyes. If you agree, you're very welcome to contribute, and/or share this cause with his friends and family.
Because I'm 93% sure that Jon wears contact lenses, I am opting to raise funds for the $400 non-prescription lenses of the glasses. The $50 addition would be to cover shipping and the GoFundMe costs for the campaign. Any additional money raised? Well... we'll see what Jon would like to do with it. Surely he'll have some good ideas.
