PUSH for Texas

PUSH for Texas is a group of People United for Same-Sex Homes. We believe that marriage equality is a basic human right that should be afforded to everyone. We believe that all children – regardless of how they arrived into their families – should be recognized under the law with equal rights and benefits. We believe in legalizing same-sex marriage across the entire United States. However, until that happens, we are committed to pushing for every state to recognize the legal marriages of same-sex couples. We will push for these families to be afforded the equal rights and protections that marriage allows, even if they simply cross state lines. In our country, well over 50 percent of marriages end in divorce. This is a fact of our society and that is why the law provides specific protections for both spouses and especially for the children. Children of divorce are protected under the law to have access to both parents, as well as financial support. However, when same-sex couples separate in a state that does not recognize their marriage, their children are not provided the same protections and benefits that children of heterosexual couples are given under the law. This is a tragedy for these children. This means that unless both parents are the legal parents of a child through birth or adoption, then the child’s relationship with one of their parents will not be protected. Additionally, these children are not recognized by the law to be provided for with child support, medical support, and the benefit that a second parent can offer. We will not stand for the children of separated same-sex homes to be punished any longer. We will push for our lawmakers to protect these children under the law, just as every other child is. We will push for equality in divorce when spouses from same-sex homes decide to divorce. We will push in the courts until these basic rights are legal for every citizen.
