India Bound!

Donation protected
Simona, Sanyanth and Samuel (featured below) are three Masters of Social Entrepreneurship students of Hult International Business School, San Francisco who are currently in India to run a pilot in the slums of Vatva, Ahmedabad. They will be testing out a food-specific savings platform called 'Pulse Active Savings' (http://www.pulsesavings.com/) with the help of Shanti Microfinance; an on-ground Non-profit organization. (http://shantimicrofinance.org/).

The GoFundMe campaign will cover the following costs while the team is in India:

1) Local conveyance
2) Onground expenses towards the pilot

The funds will not be covering their living expenses, insurance and other personal expenses.

The Ground Team:

Sanyanth Naroth (extreme right) is born in Kerala, India. He has worked extensively across India on projects relating to ecological revival and sustainable livelihood (Auroville), environmental sustainability consulting (Gurgaon), farmer suicides (Vidharbha) and culture & mythology (Uttrakhand).

Simona Ioannoni (the girl between two tall boys) is born in Milan, Italy and has done humanitarian missions in Tunisia (four times), Morocco and Mongolia. She has the ability to adapt to various situations and cultures due to extensive international travels.

Samuel Benoit (boy being carried by the team :) ) is born in Ottawa,Canada and brings with him experience of field work and program delivery in Canada, Ghana, Thailand and India in the fields of literacy, education, human rights, agriculture and environmental science.

Pulse co-funders: Niketa Malhotra (girl on extreme left), Karl Oskar Teien (tallest boy) and Saul Minkoff will participate in the pilot in India while Mandy Vidalis & Charles Ojei will support the ground team from the US.

The Idea:
Pulse will enable people living on small and unpredictable incomes in urban slums to live healthier and happier lives, by providing them with a safe means to save towards their next meal. The Pulse team has won several rounds of the Hult Prize and is now among the top six teams that will compete in the final, held at Clinton Global Initiative's annual conference in September 2013.
Together with Shanti Microfinance, Pulse aims to solve the food insecurity problem in the slums of Vatva, Ahmedabad.

Social enterprises are the key to make businesses with a meaningful mission sustainable in the long term. Pulse is one such enterprise: with the ability to change the way people living in slums purchase food and save money in a safe and convenient way.
