PTSD Service Dog for Casey

Donation protected

My daughter, Casey, is a wonderful young women who faces challenges brought on by a variety of issues from her past. Casey was born at only 24 weeks gestation at a little over 1 lb and given only a 50% chance or less of survival. Her premature birth caused lung issues, a brain bleed at one week of age and retinopathy which caused peripheral vision loss. The brain bleed caused hydrocephalus, bleeding of the brain, which had to be treated with spinal taps daily for over 2 ½ months. Unfortunately,  a small amount of damage occured to her brain.

Education was a challenge and for a period she was in special classes. When that didn't work, I pulled her from special classes and I hired tutors 2 days a week from 3rd grade through high school. As we all know kidd can be cruel and she faced bullying in grade school and middle school.

The final blow for Casey happened right after her 16th birthday and her brothers 23rd birthday. Her brother, who was her idol and mentor, suffered a brain death in a tragic car accident, after which we donated his organs. She was then sexually assaulted a couple months later

After these traumas, Casey changed. She began to withdraw. In the years since, Casey has suffered from PTSD, severe anxiety, and dissociation. Although she is in therapy, she is in need of a service dog. We began training  our young Great Dane to be her service dog but after nearly a year of training (our own and professional) and at the cost of thousands of dollars he has been washed from the program.

A service dog will help Casey regain her independence and preform tasks to mitigate her disability.

The dog will be able to do a wide range of tasks from flashback interruption and guiding her to safety during a panic attack or flashback to getting help and bringing it to her and deep pressure therapy.

Casey’s father and I have tried very hard throughout her life to provide her with all her needs, but we are no longer in a position financially to purchase another dog and get it and her the necessary service dog training. We originally opted with her first service dog in training to do so on on our own with help from a professional trainer because of cost, we must do so again, as a service dog from a program can run $20,000 or more.

We have found a service dog  breeder of 20 years and got on their wait list in February of 2018. The expected time for a service quality puppy to be available for Casey is between September and November of 2018.

I humbly ask for your assistance in not only the purchase of a dog which the trainer will help match with her, but in the training costs for Casey and the new puppy with which she is matched.

I pray, with God's help and yours, we can meet the financial goal necessary to provide Casey with her new service puppy and training.

My sincerest thanks on advance and may God bless each and every one of you all!
