I started this for my friend and coworker Matt. Here is his post on Facebook the day after his accident.
"I'm so thankful just to be here right now. I just went through the most painful day of my entire life and all the support I've gotten is beyond amazing. To clear things up on my end, I was traveling to work yesterday morning and I apparently dozed off. I awoke as my car struck the guard rail and all my airbags deployed. The pain I felt was worse than I've ever felt. I remained calm and called 911, Meaghan, and even work to tell them I wasn't coming in. The paramedics did a great job of making a stopping the bleeding and getting me out. and then came the heartbreaking news that I wasn't prepared for. The EMT told me to remain calm, which is never a good sign. He told me that the firefighters had stayed behind because my foot was still stuck in the floorboard and they were doing everything they could to get it out and rush it to the hospital behind me. I thought he was joking (because I could still feel my toes, or so I thought), but he wasn't and my life completely changed in that moment. The way they all talked though, I knew it was bad. And moments after arriving at the hospital, my biggest fears were confirmed. The surgeon told me that not even the best plastic surgeon in the world would be able to reattach my foot. And from there, my mind went immediately to my wife. I just wanted her to know that everything would be alright, and I'm so thankful that I get that opportunity to tell her that myself. I'm so overwhelmed with all the visitors, thoughts, and prayers that I have received. I'm just here to let you all know that all I wanted to do was run a half marathon this year, and this setback will not keep me down from that. I can do all things through him who strengthens me and I will rise up from this a better person. I love you all."
