The Power of Beauty
♥ THE POWER OF BEAUTY PROJECT ♥
I volunteer at a center in the South of Spain where I mentor and provide makeup and self-esteem workshops for girls between the ages of 12 and 17 who have been sexually abused, some as early as the age of 4.
Some of these girls are also runaways seeking protection at the center. Many were sold by their fathers at the age of 8 and 9 to men over the age 50 for marriage.
Unfortunately, like everywhere else around the world, Spain is facing a serious economic crisis, and the government will be reducing its funding to these centers early next year.
The objective is to create a quality high-end yet affordable online makeup academy for anyone that wants to learn about skincare, makeup, hair care, and styling who otherwise would not have access to a physical beauty school. Initially, these courses will be conducted in both English and Spanish with hopes of adding additional languages.
The goal of this project is to educate, create jobs, and more importantly, a percentage of the proceeds will go directly to supporting the safe-house where I currently volunteer.
But I don't want it to stop there. I am hopeful that the success of this Power of Beauty project will provide support to other centers like these worldwide.

Try to imagine for a moment what life for one of these young girls feels like. Now imagine if there were no center. The safe-house provides more than simply shelter. It's home to these young girls, and provides other basic necessities including food, clothing and personal care products. They receive careful psychological screening and assistance, and a full education from professional teachers who - like me - volunteer. With your help, we can empower them to become secure, independent young women.
Many wonderful friendships are being created here. The girls have established a sister-hood. Your contribution and support will help us create ongoing funding so that they may continue to have a secure safe haven and a family.

ABOUT ME
I am a freelance makeup artist born and raised in New York City to Latin American parents. I have a fascination with the numbers two and seven. I consider them my lucky numbers. ;-)
I currently reside in AndalucÃa, Spain. I made a trip here few years ago, and found myself so captivated by the country that I decided to make her my second home.
I was drawn into the world of makeup and skincare when I began working for an Aveda Lifestyle Salon and Spa in 1999. It was my first opportunity to assist at Fashion Week that sealed the deal. I knew a career in makeup was for me. That was over ten years ago.
Since then, I've been very fortunate and grateful to work continuously in the U.S. and Spain and privileged to be part of an amazing team of makeup artists, hairstylists, photographers, designers, film and television production crews from whom I am always learning so much.
