Deb's Journey

Over 30 years ago I had the good fortune to be blessed with my sister-in-law, Debie, who became one of my best friends. We shared each other’s joys and sorrows. We commiserated, we persevered, and, most importantly, we laughed. I watched her dedicate her life to her children, to her husband, and to her beloved horses and dogs. Her passions were passed on to her children; her love for horses can be seen in her daughters and granddaughter when they work with the horses, and her love of music can be seen in her son when he plays in his band.  She’s worked hard her whole life with the hope to one day enjoy retirement, but has now been handed a different ending to her story. My sweet friend has been diagnosed with ALS, but her outlook, which shouldn’t surprise me, remains one of love, grace, and gratitude.

It’s times like this when those of us who love her try to think of what we can do to help. While there will be many opportunities for friends and family to help in the coming months, I’m most concerned with now.  I recently asked her what she’d like to do while she’s still able and she said she’d love to see the horse country in Kentucky and her hometown of Decorah, Iowa, which brings me here…asking for your help to send her on a journey that will give her beautiful memories to carry with her as she battles this disease. Her love for horses is like breathing to the rest of us, and I want, with all my heart, for all of us to send her on this trip.

When I think of all the silly videos or celebrities that get millions of views…I feel hopeful that the link to this Funding page can be seen by at least 10,000 people if we spread it to all our contacts. If each person only donates a dollar, we’ll all send her on this journey together…and any additional money collected will go towards the things she’ll need as the ALS progresses. But, we’re not talking about that right now because this is for the journey before the battle. Please help me make it amazing.
