Pearl H. Davidson Scholarship

Donation protected
Pearl Hilary Davidson was born on June 14, 1946 on the Dutch-Caribbean island of Aruba.  She migrated with her parents and four siblings to the United States in the 1950’s .

Pearl was an avid reader; she especially enjoyed works from the Harlem Renaissance. Her love of literature drove her to pursue a bachelor's degree in English Literature, which she earned at Brooklyn College in 1973.  That year she began her career at Jackie Robinson Intermediate School 320 as an English teacher.  In 1977 she attained her master's degree in Education. After obtaining her Certificate in Educational Administration, she became an adjunct professor at Medgar Evers College in 1987.  In 1992 she began teaching English at Benjamin Banneker Academy High School.  Her hard work, superb leadership and organizational skills led to her promotions as Assistant Principal and later Co-Principal.  After leaving Banneker, she was selected to serve as the Supervisor of Professional Development for District 16 in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn.  In 2003, Pearl retired from the NYC Department of Education, but continued her tenure at Medgar Evers College. Over the course of her career she impacted the lives of many of her students and colleagues.  She was the consummate educator, and one of the few people to discover their Divine Calling in life.

On November 11, 2014, Pearl Hilary Davidson departed this earthly life unexpectedly but peacefully.  The Lord called his angel home to rest.

The family asks that you support the annual scholarship program that is being established in Pearl’s honor to support higher education for minority students, a cause that was dear to her heart.  Half of the scholarship money will benefit deserving high school students, while the remainder will be awarded to students at Medgar Evers College.
