Peace. Love. Cake.

Hello and welcome to the Peace. Love. Cake. campaign for Once Upon A Treat Bakery in Charleston, SC. I'm so glad you stopped by.
This campaign exists because I finally decided to stop being scared to fail and to give my biggest dream a chance to come true.
It seems that lately, we've all become really good at disagreeing and tearing people down. That's not how we get anything done, though. This bakery project is a chance to prove that working TOGETHER gets us farther than working against each other.
What is Once Upon A Treat?
Once Upon A Treat is a retail/wholesale bakery on the Upper Peninsula of Charleston, SC (or it will be when this project is over). We offer a variety of fantastically delicious desserts in an open and accepting atmosphere, where people's differences are celebrated. We give people a place to gather and know that they are welcome. We have a "Pass the Sugar" account for coffee/lunches, etc. for those in need and a "School's Out" lunch account to be sure  neighborhood children get a healthy meal in the summer and over holidays.
Why Do You Care?
While our treats are tasty and delicious, what really matters at OUAT are our people. The staff will be people who think no one cares about them-women looking for a marketable skill to help them out of a bad situation, young people who've never had anyone on their side, Autistic people who need to show their worth, disabled people who want to contribute. That's what makes us different and what makes us great.
Why Is the Goal So Big?
Equipment is expensive. Commercial space in Charleston is expensive. Paying people a living wage is important to me. In all honesty, the goal could be twice as much and still be reasonable.
How Can You Help?
Well, you can give to the campaign as you feel led. If you can't give, you can still SHARE the campaign with all of your people in all of your networks!
Want to Be More Hands On?
If you'd like to give "in kind" by donating your time or talent--labor, expertise--or durable goods--equipment or materials, please contact me to discuss how we can work together.

p.s. Everyone who includes an address in their information will get a hand written thank you note from me, along with an invitation to the grand opening festivities.
