Seeing that there has been no reply from CIC about the medical exam, we want to take the initiative with scheduling an appointment with one of the doctors from their list for a re-examination.
The government should cover the exam itself, but since none of the approved doctors are nearby, we will need a bit of additional money ($250 should be a safe amount, but we'd need a tiny bit more than that to account for GoFundMe's share) on top of the amount that we first expected to need.
This would cover a round trip, the rides within the city, and staying there for a day or so.
I received a bank transfer of $1000 through Interac and also found out I had some more money than previously thought. I lowered the target goal accordingly but additional money still helps a lot.
Since I will be moving with my husband, I don't need as much money as before. The moving expenses are still much less than the cost of staying in this city without financial support from my parents.
Still, only $1000 has been paid to the lawyer so far. $2500 are pending and we can't pay it on our own.
Besides that, I will need to make at least one trip back to the city that I am currently in so the lawyer can prepare me from the hearing, as well as one trip to the city the hearing will take place in.
At the time, I only have a rough estimate about these costs, but the target goal should cover everything.
My eligibility interview is on the 23rd. I will learn of the hearing date then, and will leave the city a day or two afterwards.
The lawyer says I should not be as worried as I am because my evidence is good, but I must stress that success here is uncertain. Even if I can get the funding I need, even if I make my best effort, even if I do everything right, I might still fail if I random chance assigns me a fussy IRB member to make the decision at the hearing.
The lawyer is giving us a discount, meaning the amount that is actually required for defense has fallen to $3500. Additional money is needed for travel and living expenses, however. Especially now that financial support will be lost soon.
(Note: This campaign account is shared with my husband and registered under his name, but I am always the one who writes the descriptions and posts).
If you are reading this, you may already know what is going on. If not, let me give a short summary:
I came to Canada to avoid lethal discrimination and get away from my abusive and threatening parents. I am also eligible to make a valid refugee claim, which I will attempt.
I have been denied legal aid and need the amount of funding noted. Most of it would go towards paying the lawyer. The remainder are an optional but useful addition that would help finance my travel to and from the hearing (it will likely be in another city) as well as my temporary stay there.
If the hearing is unsuccessful, I may have to request additional funds to use my backup plans if I haven't given up by then.
