The film, "Something in the water"

This will be a two plus hour  film on the history of the music scene in the City of Port Huron. It is my goal to cover the 1950s's through the 1990s. This film will look at the social expansion of the 1950's and its effects on the music scene from clubs such as the 402 and other "Jazz" clubs of the time. Singers such as Hank Snow, June Carter, Jimmy Dickens and many more of Nashvilles best performed at the Duchess's club. The 1960s brought about political unrest via the Vietnam war and the Port Huron Statement, it was the 1960's and Port Huron,"Was feeling it" in teen dance halls such as the DOME and Glen's Hide away. Performers such as Bob Seger, Joan Beaz and The Grass Roots found their way to Port Huron helping to spread the word of love and peace. The 1970s carried on what the 60's began. Hair continued to get longer and skirts continued to get shorter. The look, fashion and music became less radical and more mainstream and FM radio and WABX lowered CKLWs ratings as the music became thicker, harder and faster. McMorran Place began hosting bands such as KISS, RUSH and Cheap Trick bringing the scene even more alive.   In 1975 one word seemed to change ecerything, and while many in the nation tried to fight it, it was here to stay, DISCO. Live music began to be replaced by DJs providing an option to bar owners to reduced pay outs at the end of the night. Clubs like the Satalite and Alibi closed and the idea of friends joining friends to join bands to help get by became less and less feasible.  In 1970's stores such as Full Moon Records began showing Port Huron a new sound a sound that like the Beatles came from across the pond . The electronic age / new wave movement was sweeping the world and bands such as Hunting Lodge, Shame Exposed and the Blurt ,were starting to arise from the city's now decaying basements and empty second floors, and while some clubs still had a bit of live music playing top 40 smultz, the new era belonged to experimentalists who would carry Port Huron into its revival of the 1990s.
