Owen has been with Special Olympics GB for over five years training and competing with the Grampian club. Being part of the team has allowed Owen to get to know people from a wider, more diverse, circle. He has also made friends which has increased his confidence.
Owen has been selected to represent Great Britain in the Alpine Skiing competition at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Austria in 2017, one of the biggest events in the Special Olympic global calendar which will attract over 3,000 athletes with intellectual disabilities from over 110 countries.
Owen enjoys travelling and seeing the world. This is as important as competing and winning. The Games are also about having fun!
For the athletes, going to the Games is not only about participating in their chosen sport: it’s about meeting athletes from around the world, making new friends, having fun, daring, improving their health and challenging preconceptions about people who have an intellectual disability.
Please give what you can to help Owen on his way to Austria as he is working hard in order to be the best he can in 2017 and to do his country proud.
