Onyii & Co. to NYFW

This past Sunday, Onyii & Co. was invited to participate in a runway exhibit hosted by ADIREE PR company during New York Fashion Week in September. The one day runway/exhibit-style showcase will position luxurious and sustainable African Fashion on the global fashion industry’s map. On September 11, 2015, Onyii Brown will feature at least 20 pieces from the Onyii & Co. S/S 2016 Collection.

 Onyii & Co. is honored to have the opportunity to showcase our luxurious ready-to-wear pieces that celebrate, and establish Africa's influence in the global fashion industry on such a platform. We need your support to get there! We are requesting $8,750 to cover the administrative fees, the production costs and promotional investment for this feature at New York Fashion Week.

About Onyii & Co.

I started Onyii & Co. with one skirt design, $125, and three young children. 

Similar to other women entrepreneurs, adversity propelled me to make my girlhood dream come true no matter what. My background in marketing afforded me various worthwhile opportunities that proved to be wonderful learning experiences, but I have always had a knack for design and a love for artistic expression. Regardless of the traditional jobs I have held, I always had some design project going on the side, whether it be interior design, furniture design, making a dress for a friend, or even creating artwork for my own walls at home. 

When my husband lost his job under extremely stressful circumstances, I had no other choice but to figure out a way to “make it work” for my family. From my kitchen I launched Onyii & Co., and my journey in creating versatile, stylish garments complementary to all women began.

I started making wrap skirts for my friends and family, and enrolled in classes at my local community college to learn the business of fashion. In January of 2014 I launched the Onyii & Co. Wrap & Go collection through an online platform. In less than two years I have managed to grow Onyii & Co. from a direct to consumer online platform, marketing mostly in social media, to forging lasting business partnerships with store front and online boutiques that match my brand. Onyii & Co. can now be found in Nubian-Hueman Boutique in Washington, DC, at Wildlife Reserve in New Orleans, LA, and in Melodrama Boutique in Houston, TX. I have also partnered with online retailers including Zuvaa.com, where Onyii & Co. is a top seller, Maker’s Row starting this month, and shopdoku.com in the Fall of 2015.
