Life was very normal until I started having seizures from the age of 14. Initially there was no real medical concern as they thought I had just developed epilepsy. However, after an MRI scan a couple of years later it was discovered I had a 5cm tangle of blood vessels in my brain called an AVM- a ticking time bomb in my head that meant a brain haemorrhage was one day inevitable and so had to be removed, despite the risks.
So in April 2013 I was wheeled down a hospital corridor towards 12 hours of complex brain surgery and an uncertain future ahead of me.
Unfortunately, the surgery was not entirely successful and there was part of the AVM that was too deep to be cut out. The only treatment option was gamma knife surgery (a slow acting radiation) which I received in August 2013. The results of these surgeries has left me with left-sided hemiparesis, uncontrolled epilepsy, fatigue and learning difficulties.
But brain surgery is the best worst thing that ever happened to me! I only started riding as a result of feeling lost after spending a month of rigid routine in hospital and coming home with completely different capabilities. My mum took me along to Riding for the Disabled (RDA) in July 2013 and it became the one thing I looked forward to every week.
I was very lucky to have Jacko, an ex RDA pony, come and live with me in October 2014. He has been the best first pony I could have hoped for, however, he has been diagnosed with a neurological condition meaning he is no longer medically safe to ride.
This means my search for a new horse has become very urgent, so if you do think you think you could contribute towards a new horse, I would be so grateful.
I am looking for a medium advanced horse with potential to help me reach ,my ambition of being in contention for selection on the Paralympic team. My target of £30k would mean I could get a horse & tack as well as covering the stabling costs for a year.
I have already raised £7,000 through the generosity of wonderful people earlier this year.
