A local family lucky to be alive after escaping the flames inside their burning home . The blazed ripped through the Mundy Township home around 5:00 AM. The family managed to get out but ended up in the cold and snow with nothing, not even with shoes on.
Greg Palmeteer was woken by his wife when the blaze started. The couple along with their three daughters and two other children staying with them all ran outside. Their next door neighbor saw the flames and helped them to safety .
Firefighters spent several hours working to put out the blaze. Not only was the home destroyed but the family also lost their vehicle and all their possessions. Witnesses say it was a miracle that all 7 people and 5 pets inside the home made it out ok.
The Genesee County Red Cross is helping the family at this time. Donations are being sought to help the family during the their difficult time.
