A War Horse for Sawyer

UPDATE:  We have had an incredibly generous offer for a horse, which we have accepted. Our mission now is to build the fence and shelter. Below is our new family member! Please help us bring him home!




This fundraiser is for our son Sawyer. He is a young man with autism. As is common with autism, he has several other co-morbid conditions such as anxiety, depression, ADHD, Sensory Processing Disorder and OCD. This combination creates many struggles for him. 

We have been unable to relocate so that he can have access to the two therapies that work the best for him. That is Occupational Therapy for Sensory Processing Disorder and Horseback Riding. Both help alleviate the struggles brought on by the anxiety. The only place he can receive OT is two hours, one way, away. The other is horseback riding that he only has access to, two months of the year. Since we cannot take him to the therapies, we strive to bring them to him.

This fundraiser is to create a therapy room and buy a horse. That being said, we need to fence off our pasture, build a shelter and a therapy horse along with all the items we will need for the horse.

A therapy horse will help Sawyer in so many aspects. Just the movement of the horse is something that cannot be replicated and it is soothing and calming. The connection he will develope with this horse will not only help him pschologically, but will help him with his speech and with his social skills.  Shortly after riding for the first time, a friend came up to me shocked and said "He just initiated a conversation with me! He's never done that before." We have seen many positive gains when he is able to ride. Even just grooming will be very beneficial to him.

Due to frequent bullying, Sawyer has a very low self esteem. His confidence will increase by having a horse of his own and developing a special bond.

We do not take this endeavor lightly. We feel that we have the support of many people who will help us make sure this horse is well taken care of.

We chose the name "A War Horse for Sawyer" because this horse will help him fight his daily battles. We are quite desperate to help our son. Please consider helping us to help him. Thank you!
