Escape from the War in Ukraine

We've all heard the old, "for the price of a cup of coffee, you can save a life." I hate to be so trite... but in this case it's TRUE.  Here's the story:

A few years ago, while studying Russian, I sought out Russian speakers online through a language exchange site.  I met Nick, who lives in Kiev, Ukraine.

We've become friends as we helped each other study.  His sweet little boy, Bazhen, has been happy to listen to the American lady with the funny accent, reading soooo sloooowly about Red Riding Hood and Cinderella. Well.  Since we met, things took a very dark turn in his country.  His nation is essentially at war with Russia, even though nothing "official" has been declared.    Violence persists on the Eastern half of Ukraine, and of course Crimea was "annexed" by Russia to the south.   Who knows what will happen next? 


What would YOU do, if the Russian Army was firing mortars  a few hundred miles from your house? 

Nick's family wants to move and study in a new country where they can wait it out in safety while the Ukrainian drama resolves.

They've sold their home, called in debts, and scraped out the savings.  They're still $20,000 short of what they need to relocate. 

I made up this campaign to help them, and I will put the money raised here into a bank account in their new country, so they can set up their new life.   Those of you who know me, know that I "vet" stuff like this pretty hard, and I pay attention to detail.  Your donation isn't just going to end up in some Ukrainian mobster's account.
