Right now, our beloved
Nittany Greyhounds Rescue Kennel is being threatened, bullied and
harassed by a neighbor who wants us gone from the kennel property we
worked for six years to buy. He has threatened to shut us down, but so
far, nothing he says has been found to be true...nonetheless, our legal
bills pile up and up...we have to fight, we have no choice, and that
means lawyers.
Rescuing retired racing greyhounds is not just our mission, it's our
passion. Since 1997, Nittany Greyhounds has re-homed more than 2,000 of
these majestic, beautiful companions. In 2008, after years of fund
raising and with the help of an angel benefactor, we were able to
purchase a beautiful 20-acre property with an existing kennel. It's
small with only 10 spaces, but it is perfect for our use and not only do
we always have greys here, but we are able to supplement our income by
boarding other breeds for dozens of dog lovers who live close by. The
boarding pays the rent--it's as simple as that, and our boarding friends
absolutely love the small, intimate atmosphere of our all-volunteer
kennel. We do this because we love greyhounds and without the boarding
buddies, we could not stay open.
Our very existence is being threatened by someone who cares nothing for
us or what we're doing--he only cares about himself. He has expressed
that he will keep us in court until we can no longer afford to pay the
lawyers and we'll have to close down. It's cruel, vindictive, and just
mean. His motivation is unknown, particularly since none of his
accusations are true and everything that he has tried against us has
failed because he has no basis for any of his complaints. The DEP, the
dog warden, and the township have all ruled in our favor, and yet he
continues with his ridiculous legal actions against us. In fact, we have
been told that "sometimes the guy with the most money wins." We can't
let that happen. Our greyhound adoption efforts are too important to
allow a bully to shut us down.
Without
your help, we have no hope of paying the thousands of dollars worth of
legal bills that have been incurred fighting this guy. As a citizen, he
has every right to sue us every month if he wants to; we must fight for
our greyhound home! Please, lets help the "guy" with the least money win
for a change! Our non-profit is just that and we must depend on private
donations for our legal defense fund. Remember, 100% of your donation is tax deductible, as we are an official 501c(3) and registered with the State as a charitable organization.

I would like you to know that I support you 100% in your stand against a bully. Unfortunately, I am unable to donate financially at this time. My mother has donated in the memory of my sweet, beautiful greyhound, Heidi. I wish you all the luck possible in your fight and will keep you in my prayers here in Louisiana. Keep up the good fight.

Hi Stephanie: Two news stations have covered it so far, and many of us have contacted organizations like PETA, celebrities like Ellen Degeneres, you name it! If you have any other ideas though I'm sure NG wants to hear them (I want to hear too!). Donna: I thought of this as well, but I think he has only a few long-time customers, with some being family. It's not a large storage facility.

You need to go on the offensive here. You need to call every news paper, TV station and maybe even radio have them do a story on you. Also I would be filing harassment charges on them and I would also find out about a restraining order on him. But doing an article like this will get you very little help. Start making phone calls and see if someone would be willing to help you out by doing a story.

Don Houtz of Houtz Self-Storage is the person filing all the lawsuits according to a Google search and Channel 6 News. Maybe if people stop using Houtz Self-Storage, Houtz will have to go out of business and these magestic animals will continue to have a home.

I agree with Lynn- sounds like it's time to go on the offensive. With multiple legal actions ruled in your favor, you have the perfect case for harassment. If he has filed any false police reports, you may have some legal recourse there too.
