Curing NiteHawk's Blastomycosis

Donation protected

I adopted NiteHawk from the Animal Humane Society on August 7, 2013. He had been transferred to Minnesota from a shelter in Missouri. I fell in love with him instantly, despite his constant need to run off on his own adventures, and he quickly proved to be the best dog I've ever known.

On September 26, 2013, my best friend was diagnosed with blastomycosis. Blastomycosis is a life-threatening fungal infection that infiltrates the lungs and other organs. He was infected before he came to Minnesota and had symptoms of the disease while he was in the shelters, but it was believed he had kennel cough.

It's been a rough battle so far, but he is slowly getting better. Unfortunately the drug which treats his fungal infection is $200/month. This is just the cost of his Itraconazole. His titers are another $90 and he will need at least two more before this is over. His first two titers came back "too high to quantify." His third is down to 7.19. It must be 0 and then stay 0 after another two months of treatment in order for him to be completely cured. This alone will cost $980 in the next few months, assuming his titer is 0 at the end of August, which there is no guarantee it will be.

I don't often ask for help, but considering the amount of money I have already put into his treatment over the past 10 months, I'm at a point where any help would be appreciated. I have restricted my budget as much as I can, but it isn't enough to keep him on Itraconazole. It isn't a matter of life and death anymore, but it is a matter of keeping him on the best medication for his treatment. We originally tried a somewhat cheaper medication (fluconazole, which was about $100/month), but he did not respond well to it and his titers were still high even after 6 months. I will do anything to keep him on his medications and that includes accepting any donations if anyone would like to help my handsome boy. ALL money will go directly to his medications and vet bills.

In regards to the rewards levels, visit www.facebook.com/whitefeetphotography for more info! Sorry, I only take photos in the Twin Cities, but if you happen to live outside that area and would like to donate at one of the levels, Hawk and I will definitely find another artisitic way to show our appreciation! Please include your address either way so we can send you a thank you card!!
