Nick Smith is following his dream to compete against the world's best sailors.
Nick started racing competitively at age 11 with Royal Victoria Yacht Club and showed early signs of success sailing Opti and then Byte boats. Moving up to Laser he continued to compete locally and in the USA. Over the course of 2011 and early 2012 he experienced a large medical setback. He pulled through that setback to come back stronger and more driven to embark on the epic challenge of competing on an international level. With the help and guidance of his coaches he kicked up his fitness regime, focused his free time on sailing as well as his regular training days while still keeping his mind active by staying on Honour Roll at school.
Nick plans to compete in 4 regattas over 3 months this season in the lead up to his main event - the Under 21 Laser Standard World Championships in Hungary. With your support he will be able to attend these events. He has set the following fundraising goals:
$1200 - will allow him to buy new sails to compete in all these regattas
$4000 - will allow him to travel and have basic accommodation to best prepare for all these events.
$8000 - will allow him to buy a new boat to compete in Hungary
