Nicholas Mirandon, loving husband, father, grandfather, reknowned innovative surfboard shaper, and passionate La Jolla artist, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2018, while doing what he loved, creating art in his studio in preparation for his next show. Nick leaves behind family members, end-of-life expenses, and a lifetime of artwork and surfboards worth preserving. We are reaching out to our family, our friends, and people who have been touch by Nicholas’ art for support in this unforeseen time of need.

His family needs your help, please donate what you can to help keep his Giving spirit alive, and to support the art this beautiful heart so passionately created!

This page has been set up to help the family cover end-of-life expenses and to support his wife Vicki, of 52 years, to move through this sudden, complex and difficult transition, and if possible to preserve Nick’s work for years to come. Nick’s family greatly appreciates your caring and support toward their efforts.

Nicholas found joy in loving his family and was dedicated to providing for them. Financially supporting a family of 7 children on an artist’s income was a challenge, and later in the last 10 years taking on responsibly for two grandchildren was tough. But somehow Nick made it work, however with little to save for himself. At 73 years old he was working as hard as ever on his art and to continue to meet his family’s needs.

Nick travelled to art shows his entire life solely selling his original art across the country because he loved it. In his free time he designed and shaped surfboards and filmed surfers at the beach. The majority of his works featured the ocean, waves, space and abstract matters. After decades of producing resin art he never lost his passion for the work, sharing it with others!

Nick grew up in La Jolla, California, where his affinity for the ocean grew at a young age. On the cliffs in San Diego watching early morning swells and imagining perfect lines on each wave, Nick gained a deep understanding of the ocean and how to ride its waves. A visionary in every way, he would learn to shape surfboards and how to design new ones. In the 60’s he worked with his brother to create Surfboards La Jolla and designed progressive split tail boards with two fins in 1966. Glassing boards & drawing inspiration from the ocean would lead him to his life’s work as an artist using resins and pigments as his primary medium.

Vicki and the family are comforted and touched by your love and sharing of your experiences with Nick and request that you continue to write and share your personal memories.
