Jewelles travel funds NY Conference
Hello Friends!
I am a PhD graduate student attending UBC-Okanagan. My research is focusing on experiences of disabled mothers in Canada. I have an amazing opportunity to present a paper at a conference in New York later this spring. As a single mom of two teenagers (one son in the autistic spectrum), money is tight.
Our university offers a once every two years competitive grant of $500--this won't even pay the cost of the flight! I was thinking that I would have to pass this opportunity up when numerous facebook friends suggested I try gofundme...so here I am. If by chance I raise more money than the goal (I'm trying to plan for a tight budget), I will put the funds into the next trip I do related to my research.
As so many of my friends know, I am incredibly passionate about the work I do and believe strongly that part of the research is to take it out and educate people about the experiences of disabled women, especially mothers. I jump at any and every opportunity that I have to write or speak about ways that communities can create inclusive environments for diverse families.
Thank you for contributing to this opportunity!
