Keith's New Bed

Donation protected

Thanks for checking out my campaign to get a new bed!  But first a little history!  If you want the made forTV, week long drama version please feel free to visit my caring bridge blog. If not there is an after school special version below!

In May, 2011 I was diagnosed with colon cancer and a genetic disorder call FAP which caused the cancer.  It was about a year long fight between surgeries, chemo and radiation but the treatments worked and until April of this year I was still cancer free!

At the end of April, 2015 I was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).   The possible cause for getting ALL was the radiation and chemotherapy I had to cure the colon cancer.

Here is a picture of me now.  Not a look that I love, but it's what I have to work with while I am in treatment!

One thing I am finding as I go through the treatment for ALL is that the time spent at home after the chemo treatments in the hospital is I spend a great deal of time for the first two weeks in bed.   It was an eye opener at the levels of fatigue felt  because of the chemo.
I find that even doing normal simple tasks (like getting up to use the restroom) feel like a long workout and requires rest and sleep to recover from.  Oddly, the amount of time in bed causes some serious discomfort in my back, shoulders and neck.

This turned out to be a pretty big issue on the last cycle because my mattress/bed is very old.  I think I got it in around 1997!  The funny thing is I was going to look at the tags/sticker but they are so old I can't make out any of the writing.

So when thinking about a new bed, I decided the best option would be to find something with adjustable support, allowing me to make modifications along the way depending on how I feel.

I decided on getting a sleep number bed and am really hoping that my friends and family will find it a good cause and donate whatever they feel they can afford!

There is a limited time offer on a model called the iLE that I liked (while supplies last), mostly because there was a pillow top that was very comfortable.  If not there is another similarly priced model that is very similar in comfort that I am looking at getting.  I know it's expensive, but this price included an adjustable base that will allow me to sit up as well while in bed!

I would really appreciate any support anyone can give!

Also, my wonderful friends at armageddon.org have already donated $800 to the cause!

Thanks again for the support!
