Hello, my name is Sharlette Bates. I am from San Antonio, Texas. Where I currently enjoy being a mother, videographer, editor, host and 2nd year film-student majoring in cinematography. The art of making motion
pictures has always fascinated me as a young child. One film in particular moved
me deeply, “The Color Purple”
. This particular film features two sisters who are forcibly
separated from one another. One sister ends up in Africa. Experiencing a whole
new lifestyle, learning new languages and embracing cultural traditions. This
intrigued me so much that I grew up wanting to know a lot
more about Africa.
Which brings me to why I'm asking for your help and support.
In 2012, I was very fortunate to become friends with a native of Africa. My years of being miseducated about the demeanor and lifestyle had come to a certain end.
I’d finally had an actual source to give me actual information about a country
I could only imagine. One day I had so many questions that needed to be answered. That my African friend invited me to visit and study Africa.
It’s been my dream as an African American to be able to travel and discover the many things of Africa. Having an opportunity like this is nothing short of a blessing. As a upcoming cinematographer I do plan to fully document and share this experience. I'm hoping that it will uplift, educate and inspire a nation.
This journey will consist of
spending 4 weeks
abroad. I'm asking for your help today in reaching the cost for production crew, film equipment plus room & board by spring of 2014.
Your support & very generous donations towards "My Gateway To Africa" is greatly much appreciated.
P.S. "You are more than
welcome to watch this experience unfold at www.youtube.com/gatewaytoafrica
. Where people are helping people make dreams come true.”
