About The Apalachin Library
The Apalachin Library was started in 1957 on the McGalde family’s front porch. From 1960 to 1982, the library moved to various locations including a schoolhouse, the Apalachin Methodist church and the Grange Hall on E. Main St. In 1967, a board called the Friends of the Apalachin Library was formed and its reading center became affiliated with the Finger Lakes Library System in 1968. The library relocated to its current location in 1992. The Reading Center obtained a provisional charter from New York State and became the Apalachin Library Association in May 2008. It is registered as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
