MORBID: Series One

UPDATED: After great success with our pilot episode of Morbid we will be crowdfunding for a full independent series.

Morbid, what is it? It’s basically a sitcom set in a funeral directors. If you want to imagine what that would be like, then picture Father Ted and Only Fools & Horses mashed together. You have the outrageous characters like Ted and Dougal getting into all sorts of bad situations, but you have the heartfelt connection that Del and Rodney had for each other with the dream making the most out of what they have.

Morbid was written in 2007, when a 19 year old Michael Dee had just finished at West Cheshire College studying Acting and Technical Theatre. The idea originally came from a Dave Allen sketch where two rival funeral directors where seen racing to the church and trying to sabotage each others funeral procession. It was at that point Michael wanted to write about characters in this line of work.

The script spent 10 years in an orange folder in an attic. Until Christmas Day 2016 a conversation between Michael and his mum made him go into the attic and fetch the script. A few weeks later a hearse was bought off eBay for £2,100. A trip to Essex was planned and the hearse came to back to Ellesmere Port. The Hearse, now named Thora was put into storage in an old RAF base on land which is now owned by Vauxhall. Thora is half Vauxhall and Half custom build. The engine is of an Omega. The hanger in which Thora now lives was once used by Vauxhall to build V6 engines during the 90’s. Thora, technically has come home to where she was built 20 years ago.

“If that isn't a sign then I don't know what is” - Michael Dee

With a hearse purchased and the desire to start production, Michael had to find a cast and crew. With local interest from actors putting themselves forward, it didn't take long for him to gather enough people to start his mini revolution. Production started in August 2017 and carried on until mid 2018. During production a crowdfunding campaign was started and £5,000 was raised by the people of Ellesmere Port and across the UK.

The premiere was booked and 150 people turned out to watch the pilot for the first time on the big screen. Over 10,000 people have watched Morbid, we have received an amazing response to the first episode, and if you want to watch it for yourself then head over to the website morbidsit.com

A new year means a new challenge, we aim to raise a staggering £200,000 to complete a full, independent series consisting of 6 episodes at 45 minutes each. We will also include a marketing campaign and hope to make this a true contender for best British comedy.

MORBID - PLOT

Based around a brother and sister who sadly loose their parents in the first episode. They suddenly realise, that it's their turn to keep the family business (Funeral Directors) afloat and stop it from becoming a laughing stock.

Hiring two new candidates will be first on the to-do list, but will they choose wisely when it comes to picking the right candidates?

Finding a replacement hearse at such short notice, leaves the siblings at a rocky start. But maybe their first funeral will run smoothly and maybe things won't go so wrong after all. Or will they?
