For school-aged kids summertime represents the ultimate freedom to be a kid! Long days are filled with the time to play, create and imagine. Here at City Crossroads we want to fill that time with the best opportunities for kids to play, learn, and grow through dynamic programs that will capture the attention of young minds!
The Program:
If fully funded, City Crossroads will provide 40 hours of programming for all 8 weeks of summer. There are 3 major components to the summer program:
1. Summer Camp (approx. $12, 500)
Each summer City Crossroads is able to take 3rd-12th grade students out of San Francisco and up into the beautiful Sierra Nevada Mountains. A week away at Diamond Arrow Christian Conference Center provides the opportunity to swim, rock climb, play crazy games, hear from a speaker, and a chance to hang out with kids from all over Northern California and Nevada. We hope to take 50 students to camp this summer on full scholarship (no cost to families, though students earn their scholarships though community service opportunities)
2. Kindergarten- 8th Grade Summer Learning (approx. $6000)
Two and a half months out of school can wreak havoc on keeping up in school- a phenomenon educators call the "summer slide". Together with the SOMA Youth Collaborative, City Crossroads hopes to combat the summer slide with fun learning opportunities that will keep young minds engaged, focused, and ready for the school year to come. Altogether the SOMA Youth Collaborative will be providing 20 hours of learning-focused fun each week. This summer City Crossroads will be providing the following programs for K-8 students:
Science Lab- Through fun hands-on experiments students will work through the scientific process making hypotheses, experimenting, recording results, and drawing conclusions.
Theater Production- From learning parts, to set construction and costume design students will create and perform their own version of The Wizard of Oz
Lego Robotics- Following the First Lego League model, teams of students will be challenged to find an innovative solution to the challenge problem, present their ideas in a 10 minute presentation, and design and program an independently working robot to compete in the robot game.
Sewing Class- Students will learn the basics of hand sewing as they design and create new projects each week.
3. Teen Recreation Programs- 6th- 12th Grade (approx. $6,500)
Opportunities for teens to create, play, and imagine together. From basketball to music lessons, to field trips and fashion design. This self-directed opportunity lets teens decide what interests they want to pursue over the summer while the talented staff and volunteers of City Crossroads provide guidance and resources along the way. Continuing our after hours approach, our Teen Recreation programs will provide a safe place for young people to gather between 4-8pm, providing a healthy meals and snacks.

In a neighborhood often filled with adult-sized challenges City Crossroads Ministries has existed for more than 30 years to ensure that every kid has the opportunity to be a kid. As young people journey down the ancient paths of growing up we stand as a signpost pointing to The Way, The Truth, and The Life.
Each evening we offer a free healthy meal to every child that walks through our door, a listening ear, and the opportunity to play, create, and imagine.
