Every BODY Can Make Music: Creative Arts for Deaf and Wheel Chair Communities
Your donation will help fund ‘Every BODY Can Make Music,’ six programs (20 hours) in Cleveland, Ohio that will benefit the Deaf Communities and Wheel Chair Communities, and bring awareness of these groups to a larger general audience. Each public event is a creative, joint collaboration of three non-profits, Hands That Speak Volumes, Dancing Wheels, and Roots of Rhythm (Percussion Marketing Council).
Using drumming and drum making as our theme, we will present two, 5-hour teacher workshops and four, 2-hour drum circles that will all combine to bring the therapeutic benefits and joys of music making to those of all abilities with a focus on the two communities whose abilities will require special adaptations.
Teachers from these three non-profits and the public will first learn how to drum and make instruments from Dr. Craig Woodson. Emma Parker will choreograph dance portions, and Sherri Green will assist with signing. Each teacher will then have an opportunity to help with one or more of the public drum circles that will follow.
Your funding will help to pay instructors’ fees, sign language interpreters, supplies, free admission to the events for those who cannot afford it. It will also help with production costs such as rental, transportation and video production. A 15-20 minute documentary will show the results of this unique collaboration, and be available to the public for free.
With your contribution, you will be among the first to support this unique program for two underserved communities. Our collaboration can be a model to others around the United States and in other countries interested in similar music making for everyBODY.
