Beds and Toys Needed at Dog Rescue

Donation protected
A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions dog rescue, close to Hillsboro, Ohio, was started in the fall of 2010 by a very caring lady and her friend.  They wanted to save as many dogs as possible from euthanasia at the dog pound.  Now there is only one of the ladies carrying on the rescue, Mary Jane, and she works so very hard to save as many dogs as she can.  She survives on donations and adoption fees.  She also works as a teacher, and for a while, she paid for the dogs’ food with what she made from teaching besides paying her personal bills.  She tries to keep around 20 dogs at a time.  Sometimes she has a few more than that, especially when the pound is full and she wants to save as many as she can, and also when adoptions are down.   When she gets a dog she gets them spay or neutered and they get their necessary shots.  Most dogs have not been fixed.

I started volunteering for her about 3 years ago when she said she would help find homes for 6 of my neighbor’s dogs.  I asked what I could do to repay her, donations or what?  She said that she needed the time, which meant she needed help.  I have been going to help feed or whatever, one day a week ever since.  Also if there is anything else she needs help with I help her with that.

The dogs at the rescue had been in outdoor kennels until this past fall before the weather turned cold.  She finally was able to build a building for the dogs to live in until they are adopted.  This was her dream for the dogs to have a comfortable building while they waited for their forever home.  Money was finally raised with the help of some very special donors.  We can’t thank the people enough who gave for the building for the dogs.  Now we need to raise money for the following and would be so grateful for any help the rescue can get:

 1.   Most important is to get the dogs Kuranda beds that they can’t tear up.  We have been giving the dogs blankets to lay on and they want to play with them and tear them up or carry them outside where they get wet and dirty.
2.  Our dogs need toys.  Any kind of toys to keep them occupied.  They love toys and when they are given the toys they are so happy.  You would think that you had given them a huge steak.  A pet store in Hillsboro, Ohio, was getting rid of their store items, like toys, and leashes and donated all of them to A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions.  We were able to give the dogs those toys to play with and it made us happy to see how the dogs loved them.
3.  We need a bathtub for the dogs.  It will make things so much easier at bath time and to be able to bathe them on a regular basis.
4.  We also need money for vet bills in case of a serious illness.

Not only does A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions take dogs from the pound, but they will also take owner surrendered dogs as well as when people find a dog that they can’t keep.  Hundreds of dogs have found homes through our rescue.  On Saturday’s Mary Jane and a volunteer takes 8 dogs to one of 3 TSC’s, Kmart, or Petland.

I have decided to make a GoFundMe for A 2nd Chance Pet Adoptions to be able to help Mary Jane and the dogs get some of the things that they need to keep the dogs comfortable.  Besides that Mary Jane has given up all the things that she has loved to do to be able to help the dogs find homes and many  times money is short.   She said that even though she was unable to do the fun things that she used to do that she was not sorry to have been able to help the dogs and wouldn't change anything.

We would be so thankful for anything that you can give to help our wonderful dogs at our rescue.
