Missoula Max Wave Permitting Phase

Donation protected
The MAX has made great progress refining our design during the past year.  Our goal to turn the extremely degraded reach of the Clark Fork River adjacent to the Osprey Stadium into an environmentally sound world class recreational wave is gaining momentum.  Our engineering team, Molly Skorpik and Ross Mollenhauer with Morrison-Maierle, Inc., and Gary Lacy, designer and engineer of Missoula's Brennan’s Wave, have met with the permitting agencies.  While addressing agency concerns, our revised plan will provide better and more diverse fish passage while still providing stable high quality recreation wave structures that will make this reach a showcase for healthy and fun river restoration.

The MAX will replace the unstable and unsightly existing irrigation structure with a fully engineered and stable design.  The tons of concrete, metal scrap and other dangerous and unnatural debris presently fouling the area will be removed.  The south bank, now comprised of waste concrete slabs will be rebuilt with natural boulders and will incorporate wheelchair access to the river allowing all abilities to reach the river and enjoy its treasures.

Our final design will result in a naturally functioning and attractive river that provides a dependable diversion for the Flynn-Lowney ditch company, safe downstream passage for tubers and anglers and other floaters, passage for fish, and much better access to the boat ramp.  All this and great whitewater play features to be enjoyed by kayakers, paddle boarders and surfers.  This project will protect and enhance Missoula’s access to the river and connect with the new Silver Park as well as the planned Island Park across the river.

To move to the next exciting phase of permitting and construction we need your help.  Fish, Wildlife, and Parks has requested a two dimensional model of stream flows to ensure that all species of fish can navigate the new river channel at all flows.  This enhanced model will also allow a more precise evaluation of the wave structures.  This additional requirement will substantially increase our design costs, requiring us to raise an additional $90,000 to complete the design evaluation.

With your donation we can turn this degraded, dangerous and unattractive reach of the Clark Fork into a community asset that supports healthy recreation and a healthy river environment.  Please help us change this dangerous, degraded reach of the City’s Clark Fork into a safe, accessible and functional river that enhances our City’s investment in Silver Park and the newly planned Island Park.   Your tax deductable donation will help us get closer to making this vision a reality.

The MAX is a subcommittee of Brennan’s Wave, Inc. a 501(c)(3) non-profit, tax exempt organization which will ensure your donations are fully tax deductable.

Thank you.
