Miranda Director’s Statement
Every year more than 3 million children witness domestic violence in their homes.
Without help, girls who witness domestic violence are more vulnerable to abuse, as teens and adults.
Boys who witness domestic violence are far more likely to become abusers of their partners and/or children as adults.
1 in 3 women who are a victim of homicide are murdered by their current or former partner.
1 out of 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime.
– Safe Horizon
With Staggering stats like these, I somehow remained blind to the pain that was going on around me. Growing up, I may have heard one or two watered down stories but never saw things for what they were. Perhaps it was because I was far too young or too far removed. Or, maybe it just was not talked about enough. In most societies domestic abuse is hidden like the very bruises that mark those who cope with shameful treatment from loved ones. Many cases are not reported due to fear or embarrassment.
Miranda speaks of those who would not report the violence, those who silently hold it all longing for change. It is based on a true story and an extension of the award winning short film under the same name.
