Help Michelle Fight Uterine Cancer

Donation protected
This is my sister Michelle. She is strong, smart, beautiful, loving, generous, thoughtful. She is a sister and a daughter and an aunt. She is a scholar. She is a teacher. She is naturally curious. She is shy. She laughs a lot.

Michelle's health is very important to her. She is careful about what she eats and drinks. She pays attention to her body. When she began to gain weight she was worried, but didn't know how to explain this concern to a doctor. When her stomach become uncomfortably large, she went to the ER. They diagnosed her as constipated and sent her home. She took laxatives. Her condition did not improve. Just days later, she went back to the ER. This time, after running some tests, they said she might have cancer. She was sent to a gynecologist. Then, to a specialist. Fluid was drained from her abdomen. A week later, she went into surgery to have a mass removed. Cancer was found on her ovaries and the uterine lining. They ended up having to remove her uterus, cervix, ovaries, phallopian tubes, spleen, and appendix. She was officially diagnosed days later with Stage 4 Uterine Cancer. Even after the surgery, fluid continued building up in her abdomen and she had to undergo a procedure to have it removed on a regular basis. Her lungs collapsed and had to be re-inflated after they were nicked during a surgery, resulting in another extended hospital stay.

Michelle finished her PhD in Math Education last summer and has been working in the Austin school system since last Fall. Though she is fortunate enough to have health insurance, her medical bills are still exhorbitant and her inability to work in her condition has left her unable to pay her bills. We, her family, are helping her financially as much as possible, but are unable to match the mounting bills.
Michelle has maintained an amazingly positive attitude throughout this process, and is using this experience to fuel her desire to continue getting stronger and healthier.

Michelle's Pleurx is out, which is a huge step forward. She has lost her hair as a result of the chemo treatment, which is really emotional for her, but she is keeping her head up and her eyes toward the future. We are all so proud of the way she has handled this with such strength and grace, and so grateful for everyone who has contibuted in the best way they know how.
If you can, please help Michelle fight cancer, and keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
