Merit Badge Book Library/Troop 100

Donation protected
I want to put together a complete merit badge book library for my son's Boy Scout Troop. It's Troop 100 in Garland, Texas.

Due to an anonymous large donation in memory of our former Scoutmaster, Rick Weatherly, I have decided to dedicate the entire collection to Mr. Weatherly. He was a much loved member of the Troop 100 family, and is greatly missed.

Boy Scouts learn a lot from their work on Merit Badges. Merit badges are required in order to achieve rank advancements, and they expose the boys to all different types of subjects that they might not otherwise learn anything about. Certain merit badges such as Swimming and the Citizenship merit badges are required for the rank of Eagle.

Many who were Scouts as youth report that their eventual career choice resulted from exposure to possible careers through the BSA Merit Badge program.

Unfortunately, there are too many boys that are unable to afford a continuous stream of merit badge books and try to do them without the book. The books are professionally written and contain EVERYTHING the boys need to complete the merit badge so trying to accomplish it without reading the book will either fail, or will deny the Scout some important information he needs to learn about the subject.

I recently completed the "classroom" portion of my Wood Badge training and am in the Ticket portion. One of my ticket items is to raise the money for a complete merit badge book library for Troop 100 in Garland, Texas. I am hoping to raise enough for two copies of every book (there are 130 of them) and two extra copies of the ones that are listed as "Eagle Required."

Having a complete library of current books will allow potential merit badge counselors to make a quicker decision about whether to teach a certain subject, and will allow Scouts that can't afford a book to check one out for the duration of their work on that badge.

I am also planning to purchase or build some new shelves to hold all of these books, as well as an embossing stamp to make it clear that each book belongs to the Troop and should be returned when no longer needed by the Scout using it.

Please help our less fortunate Scouts get the full benefit of their merit badge work! Your donation will go a long way to helping boys learn life skills and career choices that will ultimately make a big difference for their future!
