I just want to thank everyone for your generous donations! Without you all we wouldn't be able to have the memorial we are planning for my Uncle Doug. Please let me know if you will be attending.

My brother, Douglas Bledsoe, passed away on September 15th, 2017. His death was unexpected and he didn't have any life insurance or funds available. I am hoping to raise enough funds to help with related expenses of closing his affairs and travel expenses that I will incur as I live in Texas and will have to fly home to Maryland on several occasions to finalize his affairs. Any money left over will go towards fighting for justice for Doug as well as to organizations helping people with opioid addiction. I need to tell Doug's story. To his family and friends, he was an incredibly proud man. He worked hard to pay his own way and also took care of our younger brother, Mark. He was the best brother I could have ever asked for and a dedicated uncle to my seven children. He was genuinely loved by so many. About 2 1/2 years ago, Doug hurt his back and his doctors prescribed him the dreaded OxyContin. It didn't take long for Doug to realize that the prescription was causing more problems than it was supposed to fix and he was quickly becoming addicted to a substance that was supposed to improve his quality of life. Earlier this year his addiction got out of control and he found himself spiraling. He desperately wanted help to end his addiction. He tried many times to get over his addiction on his own, but his pain was too great. He reached out to medical professionals and his own doctors only to be turned away and told that he could "handle it". He even told the doctors that he had suicidal thoughts that scared him, and had even attempted once. They sent him home the same day. Because he did not have health insurance he was treated like a second class citizen. He was unable to afford a rehabilitation facility for help with his fight. Doug did not take his life from us. It was the opioid that took him. I hope you'll consider donating to help our family and maybe share this link with others. We hope to raise awareness about opioid addiction and how serious and unforgiving it is. This was not the brother that I knew and loved. And he didn't ask for this. He was prescribed a death sentence and his attempts at getting help were denied. Thank you in advance for your generosity and for sharing!
