MAYA STRONG

Donation protected
On Wednesday, December 3rd of 2014, my Mom sent me a text message saying that my little sister, Maya, had been diagnosed with an enlarged heart, hypothyroid and gullstones.  At first, I wasn't too concerned, until I was told that Maya was now being admitted to Fletcher Allen Hospital in Burlington over night to be further tested on.  After spending the night in the hospital, hooked up to a monitor, the Doctor's decided that they did not like what they were seeing and that she needed to be treated by Doctor's who specialize in the heart.  Her heart rate was between 180 and 220 beats per minute (healthy heart ranges from 80-100) and the entire right side of her heart was not working.

When she arrived in Boston at Tuft's Medical Center, they discovered that the entire muscle of the heart was enlarged and that it was failing quickly.  Instead of her heart working at a full 50%, it was only working at 5%.  Immediately the Doctor's attempted to figure out the cause of this heart problem, but the cause could not be determined.  She was in ICU, but was moved out and into her own room on December 10th.  She is currently recieving medication through an IV, but is beginning to take medication orally in attempt to get the IV out of her neck.  Her heart is now working at 15% and her heart rate is down to 80-120 beats per minute.  She is expected to be in the Boston Hospital for at least 3 to 6 months, but there is a possibility that she will be out within 2 weeks, but stay on bed rest wearing a vest that senses when your heart slows down and sends electric shock through your body to "jump start" your heart... I couldn't even imagine. This is an extremely rare condition in general, but especially for a 17 year old.

Maya was half way through her senior year of high school and almost through her Medical Program and was about to get her LNA, when all of this occured. It was completely out of no where and was the last thing we ever thought would happen. We thought that Maya was in perfect health condition, until she felt short of breath and as if she were going to faint.  Maya really needs donations from friends, family and all to help pay for all of her hospital expenses, any donation will be greatly appreciated and will help.

The goal is at $3,000 because that is the current cost of the medical bills so far. Travel expenses are not included in this total, but extra money will go towards visiting friends and family who need additional money for gas, lodging, etc.  Also, my hard working mother has had to take 3 weeks off from work so far and doesn't have any more vacation time to use- which means she will not be paid for the remainding time that Maya is admitted in the Boston hospital.  This money will also go towards her expenses.
