Synopsis:
Maven Baxter is a socially awkward but kind-hearted POG collecting 30-something whose career aspirations are on par with his romantic prospects. He works for a bowling alley in a sleepy but charming town and for a multitude of reasons, love has eluded him. Maven's attempt at finding something more meaningful in life certainly isn't made any easier by his egocentric, trouble-making younger brother Russ, a faux lady's man and wannabe rock star whose convinced he has all the right moves. Try as he might, a slightly eccentric Maven ultimately comes to the conclusion that he'll simply have to make due with the hand he's been dealt.
But then...He meets Kate.
This is a feature film set with southern Utah as its location backdrop. We have a great team involved and working away on this production with the resources we already have. Maven will be Dan Fowlks first feature that he has written and directing. Not new to the industry, Dan has acted in some other independent films, larger production projects and recently acted in a pitch for a sitcom series "Bliss...maybe". "Maven" has been tediously written with a handful of other writers and readers pitching in some ideas. This is a romantic comedy and has been reviewed as a throwback feel to John Hughes films with a hint of Napoleon Dynamite. A strong presence that this film will carry is a message that brings Pshycological Bullying to the forefront and how certain pranks can cross the line. Also, seeing both main characters on the spectrum, it is intriguing and cute to see how their relationship forms. I am doing this film now as 1 it's always been a life-long goal of mine to produce a movie and see it through to the big screen. As I have pursued filmmaking and acting professionally for the last 6-7 years and have been on various productions, learned under some amazing talents and skilled professionals, I want to put what I have learned to use and see this film happen. Maven is a film that is close to my heart becuase it literally is my heart, a few of the pranks and physcological bullying that happens to the main character happened to me. Ready to share that with the world and just have a big heartstring-pulling laugh.
Where will the money go? Great question! We have equipment to rent, crew to feed, labor to compensate and marketing dollars to help with distribution all the while have a great time filming and creating a movie that will be sure to make you laugh and who knows, maybe even cry or both laugh and cry at the same time, who knows. Filmmaking holds quite a bit of history from John Wayne to Robert Redford filming many movies in southern Utah during the golden ages of film. By doing this film, there are many local resources and crew that would make this film become a reality and show a model of how more films can be made and produced in Southern Utah.
