In April 2014, I was diagnosed with a metastatic invasive mucinous adenocarcinoma, which they believe started in my appendix and spread through my abdominal cavity. In May 2014, I had my appendix, uterus, 3 portions of my bowel, and most tumors all throughout my abdominal cavity removed. It took about 5 weeks after my surgery for my body to be ready to start chemo, and I have now been in treatment for nearly two months. I have a port in my arm that delivers the chemo on weekly basis, and my surgeon is planning to add another port into my abdomen so that they can pour the chemo directly into my abdominal cavity. If everything goes well, I should have another 12 months of treatment ahead of me.
Unfortunately, the side affects do not allow me to work, and my employer only paid for half of my insurance premium for the first 12 weeks of my leave, which means I had to use my disability check to cover the other half; however, since the 12 weeks have run out, they cancelled my policy due to my inability to return to work. Because of the type of cancer and care I require, I cannot enroll in Medicare or the Affordable Car Act, which means now I have to pay for COBRA on top of my regular medical bills and living expenses. Needless to say, it has not been easy, so any donations are highly appreciated.
