Help Support M.A.N.U.P. in Supporting our Community

Decades of unequal distribution of resources, injustice, poverty and crime have taken a toll on communities of color.  But what does that mean for youth, specifically? A quick look at some of the statistics paints a grim picture of life outcomes for many young people of color.

In 2008, the national average for graduation rates was 72%.  When broken down by race/ethnicity however, African Americans and Hispanics graduated at a rate of 57%, while the rate for white students was 78% - more than twenty percentage points higher.

In 2006, minorities made up only one-third of the total U.S. population of youth, however they comprised nearly two-thirds of children behind bars.

Specifically, nationwide, one out of every three young African American males is in prison, on probation or on parole.

In the African-American community, nearly 40% of homicide victims are between the ages of 13-24, compared to 26% of white victims of the same age group.  Additionally, over half of African American homicide victims were aged 17-29, compared to 37% of white victims in the same age range.

Making A New United People!

These statistics do not just tell a story of tragedy.  They also tell a story of wasted young lives & limitless potential.  Changing the culture for our young men and women will not happen overnight, but with time and resources we know we can achieve this goal and change the course of the future by improving the lives of our youth through mentorship.

At M.A.N.U.P., we aim to instill pride, ambition and hope in our youth by teaching them about the rich history of our community, encouraging them to achieve in school, exposing them to professional careers, and teaching them the importance of giving all that back to those around them through public service.   Through our weekly mentoring program, forums, trips, academic programs, and community involvement initiatives, we are working to improve the social and educational outcomes of youth in underserved neighborhoods.

At M.A.N.U.P., we realize that we can no longer wait for our communities to correct themselves but must take an active role to restore them.  Since 2009, our volunteers have been dedicated to creating that change.  Now we ask you to join us in our fight to transform the lives of our youth "“ your donations will keep our program running, and keep our kids off the streets and in our classrooms "“ so that in the years to come our story will not be one of violence or underachievement, but of unity, prosperity, strength, and progress.

Programs such as ours require a significant amount of funding to provide the type of resources we're looking to secure, but a donation from you of ANY amount would greatly contribute to our cause. We understand that everybody doesn't have the availability to work on the front lines, but if you can't be here with us, a monetary contribution may go just as far. Donations of $10-$100(or more) would assist us in continuing and strengthening our weekly program.  Making A New United People starts with all of us, and it's time to M.A.N.U.P.!
