The Mankato Curling Club is one of the oldest curling clubs in the state, boasting more than 113 years of competitive action. For the first time since its founding in 1903, the club was unable to provide home ice for the 2014-2015 season.

Ice plant failures have crippled a club that normally serves approximately 200 adult members and a successful Junior Program with as many as a 100 youth participating. Along with leagues and spiels, the Mankato Curling Club is used by many groups, clubs, schools, organizations and individuals who rent the club to learn to curl, team building events, and school physical education programs.

The Mankato Curling Club has been contractually bound with the City of Mankato since 1954. The two organizations have been working together to revitalize the facility and the club. The result is a project with suggested improvements which include rehabilitating the arena portion of the Caledonia Community Center in two phases. Phase I will  include the necessary improvements to allow for the Mankato Curling Club to operate and curl during the 2016/2017 curling season and Phase II including the necessary improvements to extend the curling season into warmer months on either side of the season and aesthetic improvements to expand the use of the facility. Total Phase 1 costs are estimated at $429,000 with MCC responsible for 52% of these expenses. Phase 1 improvements include:

• R-507A Freon Ice Plant
• Floor Insulation and Piping
• Electrical Upgrades
• Concrete Floor
• Equipment Room Remodel
• Equipment Room HVAC
• Perimeter Walkway

The City of Mankato will provide financial support to the MCC up to the amount of $225,000 with MCC providing $26,000 in funds already raised through its membership and donors. This will enable the club to be operational for the 2016-2017.

To ease the burden of this sizeable debt, please consider making a contribution!

The Mankato Curling Club is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Your donation is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
