Music and Autism Project - Tanzania

Hi Everyone!
I have an amazing opportunity this summer to join an ongoing project in Tanzania with a non-profit group called OMPACO (Organization for the Medical and Psychological Assistance for Children Overseas) while they support special education teachers working with children with autism. Based out of Boston, OMPACO brings together elite healthcare professionals to conduct both classroom and hands-on training for educators and medical providers.
In an effort to work within the culture and teaching style of Tanzania, my friend and I will contribute to their efforts by designing and implementing a program that demonstrates how music and musical techniques can be used as interventions in the classroom. We will join a team of healthcare professionals from the US and travel to multiple sites within the country.
We will also give performances for the schools and communities we visit and may even assist OMPACO by performing in a fundraising event while in Tanzania!
Tanzania is among the poorest countries in the world and services for children with special needs are almost non-existent. For over 13 years, OMPACO has provided support to educators and healthcare professionals working in Tanzania to improve and expand medical and psychological services to children with special needs.
To join this project, I need your help to raise $5000 to cover the costs of airfare, visas, vaccinations and medications, music and music education materials, and expenses while in country (i.e. food, lodging, transportation). All funds raised by this page will be donated to OMPACO, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, and are 100% tax-deductible. Any funds raised exceeding my goal will be used to fund other projects and services supported by OMPACO.
