Love for Laz
Laura O'Neill is a twenty-two year old girl from Swords, Co. Dublin who was diagnosed with Stage 4 Synovial Sarcoma Cancer last Christmas. Laura is currently being treated at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London.
Her treatment is an antibody called Olaratumab, the first new treatment to be approved for Sarcoma Cancer patients in the EU in the past 40 years. Unfortunately, this treatment is not currently approved by the HSE in Ireland so we are travelling back and forth to London every 11 days on average. The Irish Government readily admits their sheer lack of competence to effectively care for patients who present with a rare cancer like Laura's in its new National Cancer Strategy 2026 document. Laura was unfortunately misdiagnosed an astonishing five times by GPs and senior doctors in Ireland's health service which led to an aggressive progression of her tumours. Laura's health insurance provider have deemed themselves not liable for Laura's growing medical costs which currently amounts to €70,000.
