Lakeland Aeroclub off to AirVenture
Donation protected
The Lakeland Aeroclub is a High School Flight Club in Lakeland, FL. Students in this club, ranging in age from 16 to 21 years old, restore and fly aircraft. This year, the club is making plans for their 3rd flight to Oshkosh, WI for EAA AirVenture- the largest annual gathering of aviation enthusiasts in the country!
The students will be planning the flight and making real-time aeronautical decisions on a cross-country flight. All while acting as Pilot in Command (PIC) on a 2000 mile round trip, cross country flight. One of the planes they will be flying is Aunt Betty, a 1953 PA-18 Super Cub. Aunt Betty is special, because the students completely restored her from the ground up. It took two years and thousands of collective hours, but this was their project, and poured their blood, sweat and tears into her. Finally, on April 3, 2015, Aunt Betty took to the skies for the first time. Their mission was accomplished! These students rebuilt this airplane themselves, and she is a beauty.
Now, the stakes are high! The Lakeland Aeroclub plans to fly Aunt Betty and six other aircraft over 2,000 miles round trip from Lakeland, FL to Oshkosh, WI to attend EAA AirVenture. While there, they will tell their story and serve as inspiration to other young pilots. These students are the future of the aviation industry. They have a fundraising goal of $12,000 to cover the expenses of this trip. With less than 2 months to go, they are only $3,000 short. They have done fundraisers, washed airplanes, and donated their own time and money. Any donation will help them reach their goal.
This is a spectacular group of young people doing what they love. By finding their passion, and working together on these projects, they have become better citizens. They are driven, motivated and hardworking. They have goals, and they do everything they can to attain them. Thank you for your consideration, and thank you for helping them build a brighter future through aviation!
