Help Send Laura Luna to the AMC

Dear Community,

I am coming to you to ask for support to make it to the Allied Media Conference next month in June. This is my first time attending the conference and I am so excited. Not only will I be attending, but I'm also 1/3rd of the organizing crew for the Fierce Fashion Futures track and the co-organizer/producer for the Open Runway Show. I am so so excited to spread the gospel of Fierce Fashion with a social justice twist for everyBODY at such an amazing conference such as The Allied Media Conference, I just need some help to get there to make it happen <3

Currently, I have my registration covered. What I'm asking for help in fundraising is for the following plus the 5% that gofundme will take from each donation :

Housing (at WSU dorms)
Flight (LAX-DTW)

Total: Approx 500.00

These two items are my immediate needs. If I go above and beyond my goal, any additional monies will be used for travel between the airport and WSU, meals while at the conference, and supplies needed for the fashion show/open runway night.

About the track I'm co-organizing
Fierce Fashion Futures

Fashion is media and politics at the same time. Fashion is life and art at the same time. Every day we communicate something about who we are, who we want and what kind of world we want with our clothes and our bodies.
How can we understand the ways that fashion builds community and simultaneously excludes from community? How can we reclaim beauty in our own fat, QTPOC, differently abled queer radical selves?
Fashion can be used as emotional and spiritual armor as well as physical protection from police and chemical weapons. What new possibilities for expression and network building are created by wearable electronics, e-textiles and new fashion technologies?
How are activists and fashion hackers creating the future of how we express ourselves with our bodies? How does fashion work in radical media, dance and performance? From Trayvon Martin's killing being justified by him being a black man wearing a hoodie, to CeCe McDonald's attack being linked to her transgender clothing choices to thousands of women marching in SlutWalks to reclaim their right to dress how they please without being subject to violence, the political meaning of clothing is an important site of struggle today.
Part of this track will include an Open Runway Night, like an open mic night for fashion to display all the fierce powerful beauty at the Allied Media Conference 2013!

About the Open Runway Show :

An Open Runway Fashion Show like an Open Mic poetry slam, bring your fiercest runway performance!
This session is a place to showcase all the fierce beauty at the Allied Media Conference 2013. In response to the existing fashion world where beauty standards are handed down to us and devalue our bodies, this fashion show is Open Runway in the style of an Open Mic poetry slam. The fashion show will be a place for AMC participants to express their idea of beauty however they please, not being restricted to a runway walk with a bored expression, but encouraging participants to use the space to perform their idea of Fierce Fashion Futures. Everyone is welcome on our runway!

. All proceeds from any sales in my etsy shoppe from now till the conference will go towards my expenses for the conference.

I'd also love to send you a postcard from Detroit during the conference to thank you for your donation. When you donate, please send me a private note with your address if you'd like and I'll make sure you get a little memento from my time in Detroit, just a little way to say thanks for your donation.
