Help Greg with Kidney Transplant

Donation protected

Hemodialysis: A process that uses a man-made membrane (dialyzer) to remove wastes, such as urea, from the blood and restore the proper balance of electrolytes in the blood.  Patients normally need to be treated 3 days a week, four hours each treatment and are not expected to live as long as someone  that has had a kidney transplant.

As of January 22, 2015 I've sat through the first of many kidney transplant evaluations. With the choice of being on dialysis for the rest of my life or having a kidney transplant, it was pretty much the same as having the choice between living or waiting to die. One of the major concerns I had once I was told how long and extensive the process is to get a kidney transplant is and how much it will really cost not only for the surgery, but to go through the evaluation process.

As most of my friends already know, I've been living with uncontrolled hypertension for well over a decade and a half and it has managed to produced two mini strokes, an enlarged heart and damaged kidneysin that time.

Fortunately, the human body is a resilient machine and I've recovered from most of the damage except for the kidneys, which can't be saved... only replaced.

As of December 2014, I'm now on Dialysis 3 days a week until I can eventually replace them. I've found many folks that are willing to be kidney donors and I already have medical insurance that will cover most of the cost for surgery, but that's not what will be draining my personal expenses way beyond what I can afford.

If any of you know anybody living only on the money Social Security Disability can bring in, then you also know they are only a dusty can of soup away from starvation.

After discussing my situation with my social worker during my first kidney transplant evaluation, there will be many visits for up to the next five years for me to be examined by a multitude of doctors doing several tests at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Any monies needed will help to cover transportation costs, parking, additional medications, medical bills that the insurance company doesn't pay and other miscellaneous expenses related to getting a kidney transplant.

I hope that one day I can return to work again, so I can be one of the people that can help others in need. Until then I'll take whatever road I need to get back to healthy.

I'm not asking for help because I think I'm special or better than someone else with an illness, I'm asking because I still believe there are truly good-hearted people in the world, like you that want to help.

I want to thank everyone for taking a moment to read, donate and/or share this fund-raiser page.
